Social Distancing Takes Early Summer Drive – It’s Scenic Bedford County for Jean In June
Many skeptics have said The Porsche Touring Crew won’t have a “ghost of a chance” of organizing an event before the end of 2020 – but we remain optimistic. In two months, PTC is hoping to lift the spirits of its members with a June 23 drive to the scenic Jean Bonnet Tavern in Bedford County, PA.
In addition to the inn’s quality menu and charming early American ambiance, it’s numerous paranormal sightings (as seen the on Travel and Biography cable channels) have been a tourist “draw” for decades. PTCr’s will be invited to inspect any of the quaint, “occupied,” lodging rooms, and peruse the property’s “Ghost Book” which documents hand-written guest encounters!
The Tavern land and building were purchased by Jean Bonnet in 1779 and originally opened as an inn, but the building became known as a gathering place by protesting local farmers during the 1794 Whiskey Rebellion, which was eventually suppressed by forces under President George Washington
The restaurant and inn, voted one of the best ten eateries in the state, offers a mouth-watering selection of crab cake, French dip, and filet mignon sandwiches, complemented by an award-winning entree (filet tip or chicken breast) salad.
As an after-lunch option, as conditions permit, PTCr’s will visit the Flight 93 Memorial and visitor’s center in Shanksville, a short drive from the inn. The National Park Service-managed Memorial tells the story of the 9-11 site where 40 passengers and crew heroically gave their lives.
As PTC’s primary concern is the health of its participants, (weather permitting), the Jean Bonnet patio will be utilized – but in any case, social distancing will be observed.
PTC members will gather at the Jean Bonnet Tavern between 11—11:30 AM and will be seated for lunch just before Noon. Pre-registration is required, but with the exception of individual meals, this event is free and open to all ARPCA members and their guests.
The Porsche Touring Crew is a welcoming group of ARPCA friends, and is always looking for new members and new destinations. Contact Tom Mueller (firstname.lastname@example.org), or Wayne Desbrow (email@example.com) for more information.
