2012 Golf Outing Recap
Fabulous Weather, Great Friends
Well, somehow the ARPCA 2012 Golf Planning Team (read Scott Ishler & Terri Mattock with appropriate support) setup just a wonderful event. We don’t know how they did it but the weather for Saturday and Sunday was picture perfect (see below).
The turnout was intimate (read, we could have had more participation) but we had a great time. We had PCA members come down from Canada to participate. It may be too strong to say they were ringers – though most all the skill prizes were won by just one individual from outside our region…
We also had non-Porsche golfers. They were just here to have a good time – and they did.
Before the Event
Wandering the grounds proved to be a very enjoyable way to become familiar with the facility. Dale and Rachel used the paddle boats to see a portion of the lake.
Saturday dinner at Lightburns was just wonderful. The restaurant on top of the clubhouse combined three extraordinary components:
- Great ambiance
- Very good food (at a very acceptable price)
- Very fine view
The Rabeneck clan would go back in a flash.
Golfing
Sunday was picture perfect. The temperature was in the mid-80’s. The sun was out and then, when it became too warm, hid in the clouds. Twenty golfers headed out onto the course around 11:00 AM. Did we mention this was an Arnold Palmer signature course?
The format was a shamble. Have you tried a shamble before? All members of the foursome drive from the tee. The best ball is chosen and then all players play their ball through to the hole. The best 2 scores are used to determine the overall team score.
For those who may spend more time at the track vs. at the golf course (eg. me) I’ve been told that the course was very “technical.” I guess that’s similar to experiencing a “technical track” such as Mid-Ohio.
My foursome (actually a threesome) consisted of Scott Mores, Scott Ishler and me. Our fourth, Rob Hoffman had a family issue that kept him from joining. We had a just a marvelous time. That is not saying that we were tearing up the course. At the end of the day, we won the booby prize for last place.
Still, we had a great time. Flip through the pictures below to see what you have missed!
