Mid October 2023

Hello Esteemed Members of the ARPCA,

I was hoping to keep up the Halloween theme with this newsletter.  Unfortunately, searching for haunted car stories yielded a lot of James Dean lore, which is brand appropriate to be sure. I also found a handful of stories that were not nearly the spooky fun I was hoping for.  I did see a post regarding the first self-driving car produced by Detroit was apparently a red Plymouth Fury at least according to Stephen King. Also, oddly appropriate geographically for us as the novel is set in a fictional town between Monroeville and Pittsburgh.

What follows is a list of upcoming ARPCA events that are not spooky or scary in manner.  The Women of ARPCA’s Diamonds Direct event, slated for November 8th, has expanded to include a raffle and an outdoor cigar bar.  There’s a chance to enjoy the local sights on the Der Herbstfahrt 300 as the driving season draws to a close.  The ARPCA Holiday Party at The Grand Concourse has been announced, a favorite tradition for all.

Der Herbstfahrt 300 – October 21st

You’ll enjoy the day-long 300-mile driving route as you pass through rural Somerset County, the Laurel Highlands, crossing into West Virginia and onto the twisties of the upper West Virginia leg of the Dragon Highway. Lunch will be en route at the Fox’s Pizza Den in Fairmont, continuing the trek north through the Wheeling/Steubenville steel country and peak season fall foliage.  Our route will conclude in the town of Beaver for libations and dinner at the Wooden Angel Restaurant.  The Wooden Angel is well known for its excellent wines, flatbreads, surf-n-turf, and lamb.   And of course, we’ll have an area for a Porsche car display!

This is a Porsche Club Event: PORSCHES ONLY

The driver safety meeting starts at 8:00 AM, first cars off at 8:15 AM.

Starting Point: AtHome parking lot:  720 Clairton Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236

Porsche Touring Crew – October 24th

Franco’s, a hometown favorite here in McMurray, is a family owned and operated restaurant which takes pride in its Fine Italian Cuisine. Franco’s has been in the food business for over 25 years, and uniting people at the dining table for over 20.

The Touring Crew will be the first patrons to have lunch here in many years and we give Joe and Gina Damico a big thank you for that.

We will be arriving an hour later than usual for a 1 o’clock lunch at the convenience of the restaurant. Hope to see all our Porsche minded friends at this most special luncheon!!

There’s a rumor there might be a large multi-day event involving cars in the near future, maybe even some Porsches.  It would be great to have images of ARPCA members enjoying the PVGP. Thank you all in advance!
