Greetings and Salutations,

Winter has finally arrived, bringing with it the unwelcome presence of road salt. While salt is essential for melting snow, it also has a destructive side, corroding the metal parts of our cars that haven’t done anything to deserve such a fate. To help protect your Porsche from salt damage this season, here are a few tips. We’d love to hear any tried-and-true methods you use to protect your vehicle—and we’ll share your wisdom in a future edition!

Wax and Seal Your Vehicle
Many of you likely keep your cars in pristine condition, polished to a high sheen. For those who don’t already, waxing and sealing your vehicle can provide an essential layer of protection. While the makers of ceramic coatings claim they offer the best defense, synthetic wax is another excellent option that will also do a great job of shielding your car from salt and grime.

Keep Your Tires Clean
Tires can pick up grit, sand, and salt, which can then be flung against your car’s undercarriage. Regularly cleaning your tires will help reduce this risk and keep unwanted debris from causing damage.

Wash Your Car Frequently
Experts recommend washing your car at least once a week during the winter months to remove accumulated salt. Be sure to wash the undercarriage, as this area is particularly susceptible to corrosion. Note that some automatic car washes may recycle their water, which can lead to contamination with salt. It’s best to avoid these if possible.

Avoid Puddles
Puddles often form in potholes, and as we all know, potholes are not kind to performance suspensions. But in winter, puddles are even worse—they’re essentially salt concentrate pits. If you can, steer clear of these salty traps to avoid additional damage.

Avoid Driving Right Before or After a Snowstorm
If you can, try to avoid driving immediately before or after a snowstorm to minimize exposure to fresh road salt. While I understand it’s often necessary to venture out—whether to get those milk, eggs, and bread before the weather hits—limiting your car’s exposure to the elements will help keep it in better condition.

Women of ARPCA – Three Rivers Karting – January 22nd 

6:00-8:00PM

We are returning to Three Rivers Karting Entertainment Park for another round of excitement – driving electric automatic karts. Do not be afraid to try this – you already have the skill set to do this – push the pedal and steer!    We have the indoor track reserved, each person will have the opportunity to race twice.  Light refreshments will be offered.

This is a private event where we will paint our own wine glasses using Amanda’s special durable, vibrant paint.    (PS. You don’t have use the glass only for wine).

We will be assisted with paint/palette selection and what to paint.  No experience nor artistic talent needed.

Mid – Winter Party – Rosedale Technical College – February 22nd

Shake off those winter blues and cabin fever at the ARPCA Mid-Winter Party.

Rosedale Technical College is opening its state-of-the-art facility to host this year’s event. Representatives will be on hand for guided tours.  The ARPCA Women’s Group will present donations to the Female Automotive Technician Scholarship. Numerous automotive exhibits will help satiate your inner gearhead and give promise that the driving season is on the horizon.

After some discussion and believing that the weather in late February might still be iffy at best, the call was for a more or less local establishment with a strong menu and good close by parking. Atria’s in Peter’s Township just below Donaldson’s Crossroads was the call. Good burgers, great steaks and an exemplary crab cake made this decision easier.

Our initial reservation is for 25 as we are in our own private room so please reserve your spot early at MSR, so to not be disappointed.

Porsche Touring Crew – The Iron Bridge – March 25th

The Porsche Touring Crew is headed north in March to an exceptional restaurant in Mercer PA, The IRON BRIDGE.  An early spring excursion to the Hinterlands for some camaraderie with our like-minded Porsche Touring Crew Friends.

Part of the Springfield Group of restaurants, The IRON BRIDGE offers an excellent menu from sandwiches to filets! Great sides and wonderful fattening but scrumptious desserts.

Women of ARPCA – Vehicle Dynamic Workshop – March 29th

Designed to educate drivers on minimizing panic reactions and replacing them with rational car control skills. Control gives drivers real-world practice that can save lives.  This course is designed to introduce drivers to situations that require learned reactionary responses.  Instructors will be riding with the drivers.
