Draft – Mid – October

Greetings,

It’s that time of year.  Time to carve pumpkins?  Time to rake leaves?  Time to have a pumpkin spice latte/cookie/air freshener/cake? Time to figure out who shouldn’t set next to each other at Thanksgiving dinner? Well,it might actually be time for all of those.  However, in this case it is time to prep your Porsche for its long winter slumber safely away from the ice, snow, and the ultimate enemy road salt.  Road & Track (Click here) has a fairly exhaustive list of steps to prep your car for hibernation, including a few steps regarding rodent control that I hadn’t considered.  But, In a past occupation, I had the misfortune to see a great number or wiring harnesses chewed through by rodents who seem to have no regard for other people’s property. So maybe a little sealing of openings and animal repellent is not out of line to employ.

Even if your car is going into hibernation you don’t have to; there are a still ARPCA events even into the dead of winter.  A brief appears below.  If you’re starting your holiday shopping early TwoEight Printing has updated their merchandise offerings and there’s the Mart for hard-to-find Porsche accessories and a couple of cars as well

Here’s to seeing you out there,

~Shawn Cressler Web Support

Porsche Touring Crew – Allegheny Grille – October 25th

Touring Crew Reprises Foxburg Visit
Featuring Fall Foliage and a Dip

That’s right – the Porsche Touring Crew is returning to one of its October favorites — the Allegheny Grille — but No! – no one will be taking a “dip” in the Allegheny River or competing in a ballroom dance contest.

The Grille, located on a scenic curve in the Allegheny at Foxburg, PA an hour and twenty-five minutes north of Pittsburgh, is well-known for its varied menu, which, among other things, features a signature prime rib sandwich called (you guessed it), the AG French Dip. And although it’s unlikely that any PTCers will be bringing their swim suits, the restaurant was recently voted the #1 Waterfront Restaurant in Pennsylvania.

Draft – Early- August 2022

Greetings Members of ARPCA,

We are approaching the end of the “Dog Days of Summer” so named due to the appearance of Sirius (aka the Dog Star) in the sky with the rising and setting of the Sun.  Ancient Roman beliefs held that the appearance of Sirius in the sky provided additional heat giving rise to this long hot stretch of weather.

While the Dog Days might be nearing an end the Summer fun for ARPCA members is still going strong.  See below for more information about Porsche at the Lot, Cars ‘N’ Coffee, Cars ‘N’ Carls, the Porsche Touring Crew, and a return to the Grand Concourse.

Stay cool out there,

This event is for the guy or girl who wants great food, super friends, and a cool Porsche car show.  Cars ‘n Carl’s (say that 3 times fast) is sure to be one of the spiciest events of the summer! Carl’s Tavern has been feeding Pittsburgh since 1953.  Carl’s introduced the Car Burger and Pittsburgh’s one-of-a-kind fish sandwich 69 years ago and has served over 1 million meals to their Pittsburgh community.  Carl’s Tavern is a Pittsburgh Landmark with the tradition of this family business starting in 1933.

Carl’s Tavern is normally closed on Sundays but will be opening up just for us! You will not want to miss this event at Carl’s with your P-Car! Carl’s is located at 3386 William Penn Hwy, Pittsburgh, 15235, event day is Sunday, August 14th from Noon – 4 PM.

Porsche Touring Crew – August 23rd, 2022

ARPCA’s Porsche Touring Crew – for the most part, a gaggle of good-humored malcontents and aging contrarians — always seems to be doing things “their own way.” And PTC is adding to that reputation with a mid-Summer quest for the best Italian eatery in the area.

The Crew has announced plans to re-convene August 23rd for an excursion to Angelo’s (www.angelosrestaurant.com), a third-generation Washington County eatery with a widespread reputation for excellence and innovative, as well as quality.  It all started back in 1939 with Angelo and Giacomina Passalacqua opened a small neighbor tavern in Washington.

Draft – Mid April- 2022

Hello,

As always, I am on the look out for Porsche information, trivia, fun facts and the like to share.  This time I have a birthday to celebrate.  On April 25, 1931, Professor Porsche had his company officially entered in the commercial register according to Porsche.com. Which would indicate that the company is nearly 91 as you are reading this.  That’s a lot of candles.

If you’re not up for cake and party hats there are a plenty of ARPCA events in the offing that are definitely celebratory in their own right (candles optional.)

Best Regards

Draft – Early October- 2021

Greetings and Salutations,

What do the following films have in common? Le-Mans (1970,) Against All Odds (1983,) No Man’s Land (1987,) and Bad Boys (1994.)  If you said Porsches that’s obvious.  Full marks if your answer was a Porsche 911.  Driven by Steve McQueen, Robert Redford or Will Smith the 911 has made its mark in popular cinema. Why the 911 trivia?  It matched well with the month as Porsche launched their new 911 Carrera and Carrera S in October 2008.

In non-trivia news fall is fully upon us.  As the leaves change, they make an excellent backdrop for photos of your Porsches.   A perfect photo of your beloved 911, 944, 356, Cayanne, Taycan, or Boxster would look great on ARPCA.com.  We are always looking for new submissions to feature and share.

~Best Regards

Draft – Mid June – 2021

ARPCA Members,

Greeting and Salutations! So fellow movie fans I have to ask, am I last person to realize that The Avengers Headquarters is actually One Porsche Drive in Atlanta?  Tony Stark may drive Acuras and Audis but he chose Porsche’s North American HQ as the home of the Avengers.   But it turns out that 5 Marvel movies (more info here) have used the location. It is a really cool looking building after all.  Maybe stop by in real life?  Use the test track?  Join a team of superheroes, one can dream I suppose.

On a less cinematic note June for the ARPCA has a number of great activities.  We are now a little over a month from the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (more info here.) It might be time to bust out the wax and detailing tools if you plan to show off your shining example of fine German engineering in Schenley Park.

Hope to see you out there!

Votes Porch Dining with World-Class Views

A well-known Spanish playwright wrote, “Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”

ARPCA’s Porsche Touring Crew plans to live-out that concept by returning to the historic Summit Inn for its June 22 driving event.  Located atop Summit Mountain in Farmington, PA, the Inn’s sweeping 60-mile natural views will paint an emerald green backdrop for PTC’s veranda luncheon.
