Whats New:

Early December 2023

Holiday Greetings Members of the ARPCA,

It’s the time of year when many people take the time to contemplate a very serious question, “What to get the Porsche lover that has everything?”  Fear not the internet has you covered.  First off, I’d be remiss if I didn’t take the time to promote The Mart, the ARPCA’s official marketplace.  We have tires, wheels, brakes, and even a few cars!

Elsewhere on the internet, Porsche Design has many unique offerings.  I really enjoy the 911 Spotlight Classic it’s a touch activated mini spotlight made from an actual Porsche oil filter.  They also have a whole section devoted to PCA clothing, bags, and luggage.  Our local partners at Two-Eight Printing have a wide variety of ARPCA branded clothing including shirts, jackets, and hats.  Finally, I took a spin around Etsy they have keyholders made from repurposed Porsche cam shaft covers and some snazzy Porsche inspired metal wall art.

When you are done with or just need a break from shopping you could always join the Porsche Touring Crew for lunch at the Kaufman Tavern on Tuesday December 5th.

Have a happy and safe holiday season!

Mid November 2023

Members of the ARPCA,

Registration for the holiday party closes tonight at 11:59PM Thursday November 16th.  You still have time to sign up if you’ve been waiting until the last minute.  If you’re waiting for a sign, and the reminder sent out last weekend wasn’t enough, here’s another.

Sign up for the holiday party at the Grand Concourse!

Does that qualify as subliminal advertising?  Perhaps it was too subtle.

Anyway, the calendar is a bit sparse as the holidays advance upon us.  No worries though, I am sure the Porsche Touring Crew is laying plans for their next season.  The Executive Board will announce venues for the monthly meetings.  The Women of ARPCA will undoubtedly surprise us with unique events and opportunities. Before we know it the Mid-Winter party will be upon us.  I’d recommend using this holiday season to recharge and ready yourself for 2024.

Hope to see you out there,

Shawn Cressler – Web Support. Sharon Lunney – Newsletter Editor.

Early November 2023

Greetings and Salutations members of the ARPCA,

Hard as it may be to believe, the holiday season is fast approaching us once again.  A time for family, friends, and celebration.  Basking in the warmth of companions helps us to ward off the growing chill of Fall and Winter.  The Holiday Party and a lunch with the PTC at the Kaufman Tavern are great opportunities to enjoy the company of other ARPCA members.

If you’d like to mix a little shopping with your socializing, the Women of ARPCA have a great upcoming event at Diamonds Direct.  On the topic of shopping, the Mart is fairly brimming with cars, tires, wheels, and even floor mats looking for new homes.

Mid October 2023

Hello Esteemed Members of the ARPCA,

I was hoping to keep up the Halloween theme with this newsletter.  Unfortunately, searching for haunted car stories yielded a lot of James Dean lore, which is brand appropriate to be sure. I also found a handful of stories that were not nearly the spooky fun I was hoping for.  I did see a post regarding the first self-driving car produced by Detroit was apparently a red Plymouth Fury at least according to Stephen King. Also, oddly appropriate geographically for us as the novel is set in a fictional town between Monroeville and Pittsburgh.

What follows is a list of upcoming ARPCA events that are not spooky or scary in manner.  The Women of ARPCA’s Diamonds Direct event, slated for November 8th, has expanded to include a raffle and an outdoor cigar bar.  There’s a chance to enjoy the local sights on the Der Herbstfahrt 300 as the driving season draws to a close.  The ARPCA Holiday Party at The Grand Concourse has been announced, a favorite tradition for all.

Links and details below.

Shawn Cressler – Web Support. Sharon Lunney – Newsletter Editor.

– EVENTS –

Der Herbstfahrt 300 – October 21st

You’ll enjoy the day-long 300-mile driving route as you pass through rural Somerset County, the Laurel Highlands, crossing into West Virginia and onto the twisties of the upper West Virginia leg of the Dragon Highway. Lunch will be en route at the Fox’s Pizza Den in Fairmont, continuing the trek north through the Wheeling/Steubenville steel country and peak season fall foliage.  Our route will conclude in the town of Beaver for libations and dinner at the Wooden Angel Restaurant.  The Wooden Angel is well known for its excellent wines, flatbreads, surf-n-turf, and lamb.   And of course, we’ll have an area for a Porsche car display!

This is a Porsche Club Event: PORSCHES ONLY

The driver safety meeting starts at 8:00 AM, first cars off at 8:15 AM.

Starting Point: AtHome parking lot:  720 Clairton Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15236

Early October 2023

Fall Greetings Members of the ARPCA,

Writers block – it happens to even the best writers, I am most definitely not the best of writers.  Feel free to ask our intrepid editor who does a constant battle with my uneven and often erratic use of punctuation. So, in my desperation but with an eye towards seasonality, I searched “Halloween Costumes for Cars.” There were a frankly shocking number of results.  Lots of examples of vehicular disguises geared towards “Trunk or Treat” events.  Buoyed by my success I got more specific with my search “Halloween costumes for Porsche cars.”  I was not disappointed.  Please feel free to enjoy “7 Ways to Dress Up Your Porsche for Halloween” and “Did you dress up your car for Halloween?”  The latter starts with Porsches, has a few toothy Miatas, and if you scroll a little there is a festive Porsche Crest jack-o-lantern.

In less scary news the 2024 Cayenne launch event is slated for Saturday October 7th at Sewickley Porsche, details and a link for registration below. The final Porshe at the Lot is this month; nothing like coffee and brunch in the crisp fall air.  The Women of ARPCA are shopping for a good cause and the Porsche Touring Crew is headed out for some fine Italian cuisine.  Still plenty to do before the weather drives us all indoors.

We’ll unveil the new 2024 Cayenne on Saturday, October 7th, and give you a full overview of all the great new features, including (spoiler alert) the return of the V8, as an extensively refined twin-turbo 4.0 liter V8 engine replaces the previous V6 in the new Cayenne S.

Well, yes, but not exactly what we were thinking in this case.  It’s time for a link to a Fall foliage map, that’s what time.  While it might be a little early for local conditions, in approximately two weeks’ time it appears much of New England is forecast to reach its peak colors.  Porsches are made to be driven and whose who’s to say a road trip isn’t in your future?  One last hurrah before winterizing might be the perfect thing.

Smokey Mountain: Fall Foliage Prediction Map

If your travel goals are more local, the ARPCA has plenty to offer.  Details and links below.

Here’s to seeing you out there,

Early September 2023

Greetings esteemed members of the ARPCA,

Not ready for an all-electric Porsche?  How about a Hybrid?  It appears that the iconic 911 will likely have a hybrid electrical powertrain available in the next 6 – 12 months.  Motor Authority has a few “spy” shots of the prototype in the wild and more details about it’s reported specs.  Read more about it here.

If you’re in the mood for a nice drive, the Porsche Touring Crew is planning and excursion to Deep Creek, Maryland.  If a nice Fall walk is more your speed, the Women of ARPCA have a Whiskey tour in the works.  Perhaps a nice breakfast or even brunch?  The last two Porsche at the Lot meet-ups are on the calendar and a great way to start your weekend.

In between mowing grass and raking leaves? We have plenty to keep you busy see below for links to more details.

Here’s to seeing you on the road,

Mid August 2023

Greetings and salutations,

If you find yourself in possession of a little pocket money, I might have a suggestion.  A-one-of-a-,kind 1956 Porsche Racer which won its class at Le Mans. This racer, chassis 550A-0104, was purpose built to race at Le Mans and, unlike many of its racing brethren, features a hard top – which sets it apart from many of the spider style racing variants. If spending an estimated 7.5 million on a vintage racing car isn’t in your budget, you are definitely not alone. But you can read more about it here.

Shifting gears from vintage racing Porsches to recent events, the island of Maui and its inhabitants suffered a sudden and unthinkable tragedy.  As a group, you are as generous of heart and spirt as you are passionate about your cars.  You might consider making a donation to help those in need.  The Honolulu Civil Beat has a list of around a dozen organizations and programs that would greatly appreciate any help.  You can read the article here.  I selected the Honolulu paper as it was local but nearly every major media outlet and platform has a similar list of resources available. Find a group, opportunity or program that speaks to you and help out.

Here’s to seeing you out there,

Shawn Cressler – Web Support. Sharon Lunney – Newsletter Editor.

P.S. Registration for the Grand Concourse ends on the 21st, there’s a link to more details below.  Don’t miss out on good food, a great venue, and a chance to show off your favorite example of fine German engineering.

Porsche Touring Crew – Atria’s – August 22nd

August will find the touring Crew at Atria’s Restaurant in Peters Township.

The original Atria’s in Mt. Lebanon was founded by Joe Atria and opened in 1930. It began as a grocery store and expanded into a barber shop and dry cleaners. In 1933 prohibition ended and Atria’s began to sell beer. Then offered food for the hungry masses during the depression.

In 1998, Pittsburgh natives Pat and Nancy McDonald transformed the historical Mt Lebanon Landmark into an upscale casual restaurant that serves up American Classics.

We are confident that the “Crew” will have a nice drive as well as a fine meal here on August 22nd.

Porsche Touring Crew – July 25th

The Club at Nevillewood

The ARPCA Porsche Touring Crew returns to The Club at Nevillewood on July 25th in Presto, Pennsylvania.  We thank them for hosting PTC again this year.  This country club boasts one of the top golf courses in the Pittsburgh area.  In 1980, Jack Nicklaus came to Pittsburgh and was asked to design a championship-caliber golf course.  The result is The Club at Nevillewood course.  Opening in 1992, the course continues to be recognized for its premier layout.  From 1998 until 2005, The Club was the host site of the Mario Lemieux Celebrity Invitational Celebrity Players Tour.

Porsche at the Lot – August 5th

Need a great way to enjoy the first weekend of August? How about starting your Saturday at The Lot at Edgewater restaurant in Oakmont?

The Lot has attractive breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, and the adjoining cigar bar features products from Oakmont’s Smoke n’ Guns shop.

The venue has a large parking lot and an outside covered patio that overlooks the parking area. Parking space for Porsches has been reserved along the Allegheny Avenue (Railroad Side) of the restaurant.

There is no cost for this event and registration is not necessary.  Just show up with your favorite gem of German engineering and share some coffee, breakfast, and time with your fellow ARPCA members.

Pittsburgh Cars and Coffee: – August 12th

From: https://pghcnc.com/about/

“Started in 2010, Pittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee is a non-profit social club focusing on exotic and modern performance automobile enthusiasts in Western Pennsylvania. We hold bi-weekly meets at Generoasta Coffee in Warrendale as well as other shows and charity events throughout the year.”

From: https://pghcnc.com/calendar/

“Pittsburgh Cars ‘N’ Coffee will have Porsche as the featured vehicle for our August 12th meet.  The main parking area will be completely reserved for Porsche-only vehicles.  We usually have well over 100 Porsches in attendance for this event. You are welcome to bring your non-Porsche sports cars but ask that you do not park in the main coned-off area.  We appreciate everyone’s cooperation so that we may park the featured vehicles together.”

Member Image Submissions

Click Here or use the “Member Submissions” link in the menu at the top of the ARPCA  homepage.

There’s a rumor there might be a large multi-day event involving cars in the near future, maybe even some Porsches.  It would be great to have images of ARPCA members enjoying the PVGP. Thank you all in advance!
