Mid June 2024

Esteemed Members of the ARPCA,

My how time flies. According to the calendar we have a little more than a month until the start of Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix.  Looming closer still on July 13th is the Track ‘n Tour Party which kicks off PVGP season for the ARPCA.  July 21st marks the beginning of the PVGP with 10 days of events ranging from black tie formal affairs, to car shows, and racing taking place all over the Pittsburgh area.  There’s so much to take in and plenty of things to experience.  Information about the Track ‘n Tour Party and the PVGP are linked below.

If next month is too long to wait for Porsche events, don’t fret.  We’ve got you covered. There’s the Porsche at the Lot on June 22nd for a nice breakfast. The Porsche Touring Crew is meeting up at Ryan’s Creek House on the 25th, the food there is great. For those of you that have registered, Der Treff caps off the month of June with a weekend of touring in Snowshoe, West Virginia.

See you on the highways and at the track

Early June 2024

Greeting and Salutations,

June is here and it brings with it some amazing driving weather.  However, June unlike May, is not known for its flowers, but the pernicious reemergence of orange barrels. The highway’s equivalent of cicadas. This year it appears we are on track for a record bloom of barrels with a total of 58 projects bid for this year according to PennDOT in an article with KDKA.

If only there was some way for Porsche drivers to avoid these impediments to driving joy. Oh wait, there are! Places free from orange barrels! The dream is real!  Don’t believe me? See below there’s information about and links to Der Treff, the ARPCA Driving Tour! Track ‘n Tour Party, and the PVGP! Locations and events replete with fun and a dearth of barrels, lane closures, and merge points.

Best Regards,

Shawn Cressler – Web Support. Sharon Lunney – Newsletter Editor.

Mid May 2024

Greetings and Salutations,

Occasionally, I look back to previous newsletters for inspiration.  Sometimes it’s helpful.  However, sometimes it reveals that I have made a joke about or a reference to the adage, “April showers bring May flowers,” every May for the last three years.  Apparently, lack of creativity is a seasonal affliction like pollen allergies.  Waiting for a shower of inspiration has brought no flowering of new ideas.  Why, break with a budding new tradition.

Meanwhile, the calendar is fairly sprouting one could even say blooming with events.  Some new like Der Treff. the Track and Tour Party, and a visit to Heinz Chapel, with others familiar and no less fun like Porsche at The Lot and the Porsche Touring Crew’s monthly excursions.   Information and links can be found below.

Yours,

Shawn Cressler – Web Support. Sharon Lunney – Newsletter Editor.

Early May 2024

Greetings and Salutations,

Safety is important whether you’re at home, at play, or on the job. How about we take safety to the next level? I hear you and you’re asking, “But how?” That’s a totally reasonable question and the answer is obvious. Participate in Wear Your Helmet To Work Day!  This May 3rd have the safest day ever by wearing your snazziest protective gear during your 9 to 5.  This safety conscious behavior could net you a brand spanking new helmet to wear next year, see details via the link above.  If you do choose to participate and document with a safety selfie, we’d love to see it here.  I can’t think of anything more mirthful than a gallery of behelmeted (is that even a word? It is now!) APRCA members in the wild.  Don’t have a helmet? You are in luck there becuase are currently a few helmets available on the Mart! A special thanks to the ARPCA member who shared this event, you know who you are!

If you’re looking for some more traditional venues to wear your safety gear, you might want to check out the write-ups below.  Brunch at The Lot might not require PPE but if you happen to pair your eggs benedict with a helmet, we’d love to see it and can pretty much guarantee your submission will end up featured on the main page

Mid April 2024

Greetings and Salutations,

Welcome to the start of allergy season for those of you that celebrate… I mean suffer.  You know what else has an adverse reaction to pollen?  Your car’s finish.  Apparently, dry pollen is more or less harmless, unless you attempt to wipe it away with a dry cloth. Dry pollen can act like an abrasive. So, much like the excessive use of facial tissues, wiping pollen away can abrade surfaces. Worse still, once it’s gotten wet, it becomes a caustic paste that can damage your car’s finish. Now, don’t panic. This is not an instant reaction but, left to sit, this paste can and will mar your finish.  What can you do to prevent this? Excellent question, while I was learning about this topic, I quickly discovered that apparently the only real way to protect against pollen is to have your car professionally cleaned.  Unsurprisingly, most of those opinions were provided by car detailing and cleaning companies.  The bottom line is that regular washing will protect your car from the ravages of “seasonal allergies.”

Below you’ll find events for April, May and into June.  There’s also an announcement regarding Der Terf, a new touring event, slated for late June and that’s nothing to sneeze at.  Was that an allergy joke? Yes, yes it was.

New Policy On Walk-In Attendance At ARPCA Events And Late Charge

We have evolved to a point where most of our functions now provide for advance registration and payment through the Club electronic registration portal, MSR. This has allowed for better planning of our events and for more accurate budgeting for food and Club swag. Nevertheless, we have seen on occasion members or their guests who have not registered in advance but who attend our functions. The Club may or may not recover the registration fee from those members, and this can cause shortage issues with food and swag. In an effort to further bolster our advance MSR registration process for Club functions, which also includes a registration cut-off date, the Club is now going to impose automatic late charges and event fees on any member (including for an unregistered guest) who attends an event without having first registered and paid. ARPCA reserves the right to automatically “Back-Charge” the member’s credit account via MSR to cover the member’s attendance and/or the attendance of the member’s guest. The member will be assessed the full registration fee for the event, PLUS an Administrative Late Fee equal to the lesser of $25 or 30% of the full event charge, per person.  These charges will be processed automatically through MSR, or in the case where the member does not maintain an active MSR account, then via personal check payable to ARPCA within 15 days after the event. Failure to pay may result in the member’s restriction to attend future ARPCA events. Any member who hereafter registers and/or attends Club events acknowledges that s/he understands and agrees to these charges and rules. If a member does not agree to these charges and rules, the member shall not register or attend any events.

The full Official Policy, adopted at our January 11, 2024 Board meeting, is set forth here.

Also, please review the other Club Policies in effect:

  • Non-ARPCA Event Promotion Policy here
  • ARPCA Charitable Contribution Policy here

Early April 2024

Greetings members of the ARPCA,

Porsche has announced an electric minivan to join the 2024 line-up with units available for delivery later this year.  Yes, you read that correctly.  From Jalopink.com, “The minivan’s cabin fits six people, and is completely unlike those of the company’s sports cars… The minivan’s cabin is what Porsche’s head of interior design, Markus Auerbach, calls an ‘area that invites relaxation, offering alternative seating positions for talking, working, and relaxing,’“ just what you’ve all been asking for, right?

APRIL FOOLS! Porsche did develop an EV Minivan and the link above goes to an actual 2021 article about it but, it is not coming to a dealership near you.  You’ll just have to resign yourselves to the standard offerings of high-performance coupes, sedans, and SUV’s.

But seriously, below you’ll find write-ups and links for upcoming events in April and May, 2024.  Additionally, please take note of the recently adopted policy regarding event attendance and late charges.

New Policy on Walk In attendance at ARPCA events and Late Charge

Mid March 2024

Hello esteemed members of the ARPCA,

Beware the Ides of March!  Or you may end up with a salad named after you.  I jest.  The Caesar Salad is absolutely not named after Julius Caesar it’s reportedly named after Caesar Cardini, an Italian chef who owned a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico, circa 1920’s.

If you fancy Caesar Salad or maybe just the company of some of your favorite ARPCA friends you will find some helpful information below. Admittedly, that is one of the weakest segue ways I have ever written, easily the cheesiest.  They can’t all be gems.  However, if you join the PTC in May the Iron Bridge does absolutely have a Caesar Salad on the menu.

Early March 2024

Greetings esteemed members of the ARPCA,

March is upon us. Fear not, I am not about to make a series of bad puns about the Ides of March.  I’ll save that for the mid-March newsletter which is only appropriate.

Instead, I wanted to revisit a newsletter topic from way back in March 2022, so long ago, simpler times.  March madness is upon us again.  For those of you about to engage in the practice of bracketology the NCAA has some dispiriting news.

If create your bracket by guess or random means like a coin flip your odds are 1 in 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 (9.2 sextillion.)

If you happen to know a little about college basket ball your odds in crease to 1 in 120,200,000,000. (120.2 billion)

To put the previous in perspective your odds of winning the Powerball are 1 in 292,200,000 or being struck by a meteorite in your lifetime is 1 in 840,000,000.  If you’re looking to gamble maybe stick to blackjack where the odd of being dealt 21 are approximately 1 in every 20 hands.

What’s not a gamble though? ARPCA Events are a sure bet! The High Performance Driver Education season has been set and registration is open.  The All Member dinner is fast approaching.  The Women of ARPCA have plans to socialize and to shop for a good cause.  The Porsche Touring Crew has an April event at an excellent local eatery.  See details below.

Best Regards,

Shawn Cressler – Web Support. Sharon Lunney – Newsletter Editor.
