Saturday June 17th – 8:30AM – 4:30PM – Tire Rack Street Survival Car Control Clinic

ARPCA members know any New/Newer Drivers?

  • ARPCA is hosting our first driver school geared to new teen drivers.  If you know of new licensed drivers, son, daughter, grand-child or neighbor please let them know about a fun way to learn more about handling their car.  They do not need to be an ARPCA member!
  • Primary emphasis of Tire Rack Street Survival® is a “hands-on” driving experience in real-world situations! We use your own car to teach you about handling limits and how you can control them. Students will become more observant
of traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves.
  • It’s about more than driving – it’s about LIVING!  Thanks to support of Tire Rack, Michelin, Enterprise, BWM CCA Foundation, Pitt Ohio Express and Moon Township Ford we offer this event at a very low cost of $75.00. Space is limited.

ARPCA / EBR August 9 & 10 Weekend Track Event

The ARPCA / EBR DE at Pitt Race on August 9 & 10 is almost here!

Join The Allegheny Region PCA and Eastern Buckeye PCA at PittRace for a great weekend of track activities. With only a month left before this event, time is running out register today!

Three(3) events are planned for this weekend,

For those that may be new to this annual event, here’s some background on the facility at PittRace:

  • The facility just 20 minutes north of PittsburghInternationalAirport
  • The North Track is a 1.6 mile course with over 8 turns, sweeps and elevation changes.
  • The track has a high-quality surface and is well maintained.

  • The Vehicle Dynamics Area (VDA), 5+ acres of pavement that we’ll be using for a car control activities to refine car handling skills. These include Slalom and Stop, Avoidance and Skidpad exercises.

All types of vehicles are welcome!

In addition to Porsches, we have Audis, BMWs, Corvettes, Lotuses, Mazdas, Minis, Subarus  come and participate. All that is required is that you have a technical safety inspection completed by your local mechanic.

Come for a party

In addition on on-track activities the club will also be having a social gathering at the track Saturday Evening. Have your family come up to enjoy good food and drink with friends.

Come see a new facility being built

PittRace is investing millions in upgrading the facility and creating a new 2.88-mile track. The new track is scheduled to open in 2014!  The improvements are already underway! The track has paved the driveway to the track and the driver’s paddock area. Pitt Race has added additional “Air-Conditioned” rest rooms with showers in the paddock area.  Camping is available, for a nominal weekend fee (slightly more with hook-ups), which is purchased directly with PittRace as you enter the gate.

New to Track Events?

First time? No worries. Our clubs excels in making sure your experience is safe and enjoyable. You will be paired with an instructor who will be knowledgeable in driving your type of car at speed. Your day will begin with a drivers meeting, classroom instruction and then out onto the track. We run rain or shine – many drivers find that running in the rain is just as enjoyable – the major difference is everything just happens at lower speeds.

You will need a SNELL 2005 or newer rated helmet.   Helmets can be rented at the track pro shop for new drivers.

If You Prefer Auto-X

An Auto Cross is also going to be held at the track on Sunday on the VDA. Autocross (AX) will give you the opportunity to test yourself and develop your own skill set, as well as learn the limits of your vehicle in a safe and controlled environment. All events are based around a course made of traffic cones and each lap timed for each driver. AX seldom exceeds speeds of 60 mph and has no “wheel to wheel” competition.

2014 Autocross Season Schedule

The ARPCA is excited to announce another year of Autocross for 2014! The 2012 and 2013 seasons saw great participation, a lot of fun, and gave drivers the ability to learn about themselves and their cars in a safe environment. Season three will again offer the ability to learn more about yourself and your car but, will expand on those abilities with the addition of new programs:

  • PVGP Autocross School hosted by the Steel Cities SCCA (Saturday July 12 OR Sunday July 13)
  • Autocross and Taste Of The Track Event coinciding with our August DE at PittRace. (August 10 at PittRace)

The Autocross School and Taste Of The Track events are aimed to help drivers (from novice to pro) improve their autocross skill and to have a better understanding of vehicle dynamics; braking, acceleration, cornering, throttle management, and understanding the best line through a course. In addition to the Autocross skill set taught at the AX school, the Taste Of The Track Event will allow autocrossers to test their ability and apply those skills on the track (with an ARPCA DE Instructor) and experience what a Driver’s Education (DE) is about.

This season we will also participate in and along with several other cars clubs (North Hill Sports Car Club, BMW Club, Mini Club and Steel Cities SCCA) in the Wounded Warrior Project October 11-12, 2014 to raise money through an autocross for injured soldiers hurt in the line of duty. The Wounded Warrior Benefit Autocross is a two day event and entrants can participate either Saturday, October 11 or Sunday, October 12 or both days if so desired. The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity dedicated to providing tangible, practical support for our wounded military – Helping them to heal both physically and mentally. We are truly excited to be part of this event for 2014.

About Autocross:

AX is a great entry-level competitive driving event that requires little car prep, time or money. Beginners are welcome and there are no pre-requisites other than a vehicle in safe working condition.  Before each event begins there is a guided Course Walk that takes you step by step through the driving line and explains how to navigate through the cones. This is especially helpful for first-timers and those that want a second perspective.

Autocross courses are typically around a 1/2  to 1 mile in length and tend to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill rather than on sheer horsepower. Autocross courses are set up using soft orange traffic pylons which will not damage your car. Events are run at speeds usually between 40-65 MPH, usually in 2nd gear. Autocross is a “performance driving event” and a safe way to learn how to drive your car at its limit. You not only learn how to handle your car at speeds that you drive daily, but you also:

  • Gain confidence in your driving ability
  • Learn the limits of your car’s brakes
  • Learn correct seating, hand, and feet positions
  • Learn the limits of your car’s tire adhesion

Finally, Autocross is a social gathering of new and old friends and LOTS OF FUN!

While the size of the field will determine the number of runs which occur last year we averaged 4 – 6 runs in both the morning and afternoon.

Final AutoCross of 2013 – Consol Energy Field – Washington, PA

Last autocross of 2013!

The final Autocross of the season is Saturday, October 19 at Consol Energy Field in Washington, PA.

AX has been a huge hit for a second year since its return to our club.  If you haven’t attended an AX this year you’ve got one more chance for 2013.  We’ve seen Porsches and non-Porsches compete.  AX is a great way to test and develop your skill as a driver in a very safe and controlled environment.

The Day’s Schedule is as Follows:

  • Gates open 8am

Sushi and Speed Autocross Results

Absolutely fantastic event. One of the ARPCA’s all time best autocrosses to date! This year’s autocross at the Greensburg Jeanette Airport was one of the best yet for several reasons: the weather was fantastic, participation was great, competition was tight, and the course was the most fun of all. Believe it or not, I actually felt a little sad taking the course down. A special thanks to Trevor Hil and Scott Mores for putting the course together. Also another huge thanks to Don Baker for taking some GREAT photos at the event!

Click here for the results of the autocross on August 24.

Take a minute to look through the event gallery from Sushi and Speed.

Don’t forget that there are two more Autocrosses left this year. Sept 29 at PittRace with the SCCA and October 19 at Consol for Fall Fest. Register today!

PittRace Autocross Results

What a spectacular event! Autocross season 2.0 was underway on Sunday May 26th. We had 28 Drivers ranging form SCCA Nationally Recognized Drivers to First time drivers (literally – just got a PA drivers license.) The event was tons of fun, although I personally spun out twice… Our next event is June 23rd with the SCCA at PittRace. We will put registration up very soon. If you haven’t tried and Autocross yet, don’t let this season slip by. It’s tons of fun and you’ll learn a lot about you and your car.

A special thanks to the Steel Cities Region SCCA and Frank and Kristi Gaus for doing timing and designing the course.
