PTC to Celebrate Dean Martin’s Career;
Slates Luncheon in Singer’s Ohio Hometown
The Porsche Touring crew has announced a May 23 drive and luncheon at a Froehlich’s Classic Corner, a unique eatery in Steubenville, Ohio, the birthplace of Dino Crocetti – who later achieved international fame as singer and comedian Dean Martin!
Early-on, young Dino dropped out of high school and started life as a boxer. Later, after taking up singing in local clubs and later in New York City, he became a household name as one-half of comedy team Martin and (Jerry) Lewis (16 movies in 10 years!). Then, in the 1950’s – and a member of the infamous “Rat Pack” — he re-focused his vocal efforts and topped the charts with hits like “That’s Amore,” and “Everybody Loves Somebody.”
But fame and fortune aside, Dean’s first love remained unique cars, and he once called himself “Just a Car Guy.” His collection ran from a 1967 Ferrari 124P former race car, to a Facel Vega HK500, to a small fleet of luxurious Stutz Blackhawks, all housed at his Beverly Hills Mountain Drive home.
Steubenville’s Classic Corner restaurant (www.classiccornerrestaurant.com), started by owners Greg, Debbie (spouse) and Laura (sister) Froehlich, has a rich history, as well. The Froehlichs’ structure was conceived and built as the Ohio Power Building, originally designed in the art deco style, and aimed at showcasing the “Power of Modern Electricity” to Ohio citizens. It was later purchased by William and Juanita Welsh and converted into a museum dedicated to William’s passion — the Jaguar brand.
Eighteen years ago Chef Greg, who headed-up catering for a prominent country club, led the charge to purchase and restore the site and its ambiance, and create a destination restaurant. Today, Froehlich’s Classic Corner is a regular stop for locals and regional travelers alike, and offers a tasty mix of pasta dishes, seafood, beef, chops, several entrée salads — and even an unusual Liver and Onions entrée***!
PTC members plan to convene between 11:00 and 11:30 am on May 23 in the Classic Corner’s parking lot – then move into the dining room just before Noon.

Greg and Debbie Froehlich are shown with a Mark II Sedan — an example of the vintage Jaguars that used to call the Froehlich’s restaurant building (and former Jag Museum) home

*** (Don’t Laugh) — Liver is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet, with significant amounts of iron, riboflavin, vitamin B12, vitamin A, and copper. Eating a single serving of liver can help you meet your daily recommended amount of most of these vitamins and minerals, reducing your risk of nutrient deficiency.
