PTC Announces Mid-Fall Itinerary;
Third-Try Jaunt to Mountaineer Center
“Third time lucky…” is an old British expression that describes something that’s worth pursuing after other attempts have failed.
After two Covid-19 “sidetracks” in 2019 and 2020, on Tuesday, October 26, the Porsche Touring Crew will make its third run at visiting West Virginia University and its Erickson Alumni Center, located on the school’s Evansdale campus. The Erickson has invited PTC travelers to enjoy a catered lunch in one of its VIP rooms, and get a glimpse of what Mountaineer life is all about.
The University, which started life as an ivy-covered college in 1868, now boasts more than 27,000 students in 380 major fields. But even though WVU is only a few stops down I-79, for many Pittsburghers, the school remains a virtually unknown commodity, shrouded in occasional Division I sports and couch-burning news stories.
After dining on a medley of gourmet sandwiches and salads at the Alumni Center, PTCr’s can elect an escorted tour that will stop at selected points on the campus. Although the details have yet to be finalized, the 1-1/2-hour tour will include insights into several non-academic University initiatives, like:
- The WVU Advanced Combustion Lab (key role in Volkswagen emissions lawsuit)
- The Formula Racing Car Project
- The WVU Crime Scene Training Complex
- The Automotive Engineering EcoCar Challenge
This PTC trip is designed as a “Drive on Your Own” event with members asked to arrive in a “Porsche-only” Erickson Center parking area between 11:00 and 11:30 AM on the 26th. The event is free for all ARPCA members and their guests, aside from the cost of their lunch, and the usual PTC charitable donation. Space is limited, so members are asked to register at Motorsportreg.com. as soon as possible.
The Porsche Touring Crew is an informal group within ARPCA that hosts social events. PTC is always interested in welcoming new ARPCA members and their guests, and in finding interesting driving and dining venues. For more information contact Tom Mueller (email@example.com), or Wayne Desbrow (firstname.lastname@example.org).
NOTE: ARPCA events always begin with safety, and as such, all COVID-19 and variant related precautions required by the CDC, local municipalities and the University will be strictly observed at his event.
