PTC July 28th – Serventi’s Restaurant At the Butler Airport

The history of Butler Airport starts in 1929 with an opening with considerable fanfare originally as Pittsburgh Butler Airport. A grass field, it was reportedly the original Pittsburgh Airport with a rail track to take folks back to town. Amelia Earhart and many other famous pilots visited the field in the last 100 or so years
On July 28th the Airport and Serventi’s on the runway in particular were visited by the Porsche Touring Crew, 70 Crew members and a few guests enjoyed a delicious lunch together.
Jim Savage, owner of a 1937 Spartan Executive gave a fascinating talk about the extensive history of this classic and rare aircraft and some of his personal experiences.
Also present were Mike Walsh, Airport Treasurer and board member Mike Walsh who welcomed and greeted the Crew.
After lunch we were able to go out on the ramp to see a Piper Cub and the Spartan where cookies were served! What a thrill to hear the Spartan start up and taxi home.

Next month it’s the Bigham Tavern in Bridgewater on August 25th to celebrate the PTC’S birthday! Yes, there will be cake but only 45 seats!
The PTC lunches are open to all ARPCA members but you must register on MSR so we have an exact count for the restaurant.
Our charity this year, Always B Smiling, A group that helps severely handicapped kids and adults and is supported by donations taken via our beautiful oil can.
