RECAP PTC Angelo’s

PTC’s Early Washington Election:
Good Food Seasoned with Jazz History

Shown above are some of the 30 ARPCA members who registered for the Porsche Touring Crew’s August 23rd outing to Angelo’s Restaurant in Washington, PA.

After the group feasted on Angelo’s turkey panini, homemade lasagna and death-by-chocolate gelato, PTCr’s took a few minutes to admire Mark Frumkin’s 2013 Mahogany Metallic Boxster which, of course, stopped traffic in front of the restaurant.  Mark recently acquired the immaculate, heavily-optioned 6-speed S-variant.

Michael Passalacqua,  Angelo’s current (and third generation) owner, is himself a “recovering” vintage and sports car fanatic, and was thrilled to have 20 P-Cars adorning the front lot of his eatery!  Michael and his staff made good on their promise to take particularly good care of the PTC caravan and their vehicles.

In addition to good food and conversation, the event featured Bob Stark, a multi-instrumentalist, jazz history aficionado and Washington Jazz Society board member, as a guest speaker.  Stark took the group on an informative trip through the social conditions and historical events that shaped the Pittsburgh Region into major incubator for jazz talent.  His passion for the music was obvious as he recounted anecdotes about Pittsburghers Billy Strayhorn, Errol Garner, Art Blakey, Mary Lou Williams, George Benson, and others.

The Porsche Touring Crew is a social group open to all ARPCA members and their guests.  PTC’s next event is a September 27 luncheon at Wooden Angel in Beaver, PA. that features a wide variety of Italian and American favorites, as well as an extensive selection of wines. Reservations are required and can be made at MotorsportReg.com.

Wrap Up For Zelienople PTC 2021

PTC Celebrates Holidays
At Zelienople’s Log Cabin

Porsche Touring Crew regular John Vecchi and new member Karin Dalton recently honored PTC by announcing their engagement at PTC’s final event of 2021 at Zelienople’s Log Cabin Inn. The weather was chilly, but Karin was welcomed warmly with a great lunch and a round of congratulations and Holiday conversation.

Afterward, the happy couple took a few minutes to huddle around Johann Collins’ beautiful 2007 911 4S.  Johann is also a new member, and his recently-acquired manual coupe is reportedly the only paint-to-sample pastel yellow 997 in the North America!

Congrats to John and Karin – and Johann!

Wrap Up for Nevillewood PTC Event 2021

Some of the 24 Porsche Touring Crew members who attended the Crew’s September 28 drive and dine, cluster around Dan and Janice Cooley’s ‘17 twin turbocharged 4S. Wrap UP for PTC 2021 Jean Bonnet

Some of the more than 30 Porsche Touring Crew attendees gather under Jean Bonnet Tavern’s sun-speckled “Marriage Tree” after lunch in the inn’s rustic dining room.  The stately oak has served as the backdrop for countless marriage proposals and wedding group photographs.  PTC’s next stop: lunch on  Nevillewood Country Club’s picturesque patio, September 28.  All ARPCA members and their guests are welcome to attend by registering on Motorsportreg.com.

In this photo Don and Carolyn Berry had just arrived at the August 24 PTC luncheon at Bedford’s Jean Bonnet Tavern. Posing with them in this “three-shot,” and dressed in its bamboo metallic coat, is their beautiful 1989 2.7L 8-valve 944.  The Porsche Touring Crew is an informal ARPCA luncheon group whose menu regularly includes friendship and stimulating conversation. All ARPCA members and guests are welcome to join.

Wrap UP for PTC DeNunzio 2021

Sharky’s Café Braces for Steelers Fans;
Hosts Early PTC “Training Camp” Excursion

OK – so most Porsche Touring Crew members aren’t built like NFL middle linebackers.  But on June 28th PTC plans to help a popular Steeler eatery – “set the table” for the return of the team and their loyal fans!

For the past two pandemic preseasons, Sharky’s Café in Latrobe, a magnet for Steeler Nation, has been running at 1/10 wide receiver speed due to the league-ordered Training Camp relocation to Heinz Field and the team’s Southside training facility.  But Sharkey’s is now preparing for the return of the Steelers’ and their regular July camp, located just a stone’s throw away at St. Vincent’s College. The Camp’s return, and the promise of another Super Bowl appearance, are expected to bring hundreds of diners back to the Café. TC Spring Saxonburg Social

Stops at Historic Hotel and Museum

On May 24, the Porsche Touring Crew is returning to one of its most popular pit stops: the historic  Saxonburg Hotel, where almost 100 years ago President Woodrow Wilson registered as an overnight guest. The Hotel (www.hotelsaxonburg.com) opened its doors in 1832, but its period-furnished dining rooms have become a destination dining-focused location since owner Judy Feree took over in 2010.

The Hotel is a rural drive located a few miles off Route 8, north of Pittsburgh. Participants will gather at the Hotel between 11:00 and 11:30 and sit down for lunch just before 12:00 Noon.

Porsche Touring Crew ’22 Kickoff Event
To Save ARPCA Members $Thousands$!

Many experienced travelers say that, in Italy, when it comes to traditional regional cuisine, “All Roads lead to Napoli,” a city (now “Naples”) in the southern Region of Campana. Aside from being a foodie’s paradise, its three-million+ population is proud of the city’s reputation for art, architecture — and for being the 18th Century birthplace of pizza!

Although some ARPCA members will understandably insist on the complete travel experience, PTC has come up with an innovative way to save time and re-channel members’ money toward a new coupe, cab or targa. Instead of blowing $10,000 or $20,000 on a transcontinental trip, members can take their P-Cars out of hibernation and join ARPCA’s Porsche Touring Crew for its 2022 opening luncheon at Napoli’s restaurant in Bridgeville, PA Read more

PTC To Heed Twain’s Advice
On September Trip to Nevillewood

Mark Twain, the celebrated American author, entrepreneur and humorist, once quipped, “Golf is a good walk spoiled.”

Porsche Touring Crew members plan to take that warning to heart.  On September 28, they’ll be happily skipping golf, and walking straight from their dedicated parking spots to PTC’s private lunch on The Club at Nevillewood’s covered patio – without even thinking about keeping score! Read more

Touring Crew’s Bedford Expedition
To Combine History, Track and Prime Rib

The Porsche Touring Crew is heading East August 24th on a return lunch trek to the historic Jean Bonnet Tavern in Bedford, PA.  The Tavern, which has been voted one of the best destination restaurants in Pennsylvania, was a PTC favorite in its 2019 lineup.

In addition to its lights-out prime rib, executive chef Faye Blackburn promises a wide variety of culinary attractions, including no-filler crab cakes, locally-raised bison burger and the Jean Bonnet Tavern Salad.  Most sweet-toothed P-car people will also find themselves saving room for the eatery’s homemade peanut butter (with drizzled hot fudge) pie. Sixteen draught beers will also help chill out the August heat. Read more

PTC Slates Summer Sojourn
Eyes July River Retreat

Fresh off a record turnout at their Summit Inn event, and a week of non-stop PVGP activity, Porsche Touring Crew has set its sights on the perfect place to chill out and continue to recover from 18 months of social distancing!  On July 27, PTC will lead a return excursion to the rustic Allegheny Grille in Foxburg, PA.

But despite the location, don’t count on spotting any foxes.  It was actually the Fox family of Philadelphia that originally purchased several tracts from the Commonwealth (circa 1790) and subsequently named the municipality. Read more

PTC Adopts “Green Agenda;”

Votes Porch Dining with World-Class Views

A well-known Spanish playwright wrote, “Green is the prime color of the world, and that from which its loveliness arises.”

ARPCA’s Porsche Touring Crew plans to live-out that concept by returning to the historic Summit Inn for its June 22 driving event.  Located atop Summit Mountain in Farmington, PA, the Inn’s sweeping 60-mile natural views will paint an emerald green backdrop for PTC’s veranda luncheon. Read more
